FAQs

What is involved in the lacquer and refinishing process?

The lacquer and refinishing process involves about a 2.5 day process for a large piece (60 inch dresser or two large nightstands). This involves, cleaning and degreasing, sanding, filling, priming and more sanding. Did I mention lots and lots of sanding! Be it that currently Adam is the owner and sole craftsman, he is capable of managing shipping and finishing for around 2 custom pieces and one to two shop pieces per week.

The basecoat of lacquer is applied and is often also the primer and following a clearcoat which is the gloss is applied over it. Sometimes products with integral color will be used depending on the level of sheen desired.

What coatings do you offer? Any low or no VOC options?

We offer many coatings for furniture at our shop. Most notably, the very popular Mohawk pre catalyzed Gloss and Satin Lacquer. We offer automotive paints as well Novalk catalyzed polyurethane.

We offer Centurion 400 series water based and 2800 series catalyzed as well. We do not recommend water based high gloss at this time.
